I grew up eating hot oatmeal for breakfast. On those very cold Vermont winter mornings, a hot bowl of oatmeal drizzled with Vermont maple syrup really hit the spot! For years, I never really saw it sold in Japan and many people really didn’t know what is was or how to prepare it. Nowadays, I’m seeing it more and more on supermarket shelves. I was recently in a local Ichigokan and was so surprised at the huge display of oatmeal. (See picture). Oatmeal is a very heathy food. It’s high in fiber and lowers your cholesterol. It makes a hearty breakfast, fills you up and gives you energy.
